No matter where you go...there you are!: Ecuador / At the Stadium

Yesterday evening I went to the stadium to watch a match of Deportivo Quito, one of Quito's historical main teams. It's not the one with the most supporters (there were only 10,000 people at the stadium this time), but it has won the major league five times, including last year. This was one of the first matches of Libertadores cup, the Champions League of Latin America, and Deportivo Quito played against Velez, one of the best teams of Argentina.

For me, going to the stadium here is not only about football, but also about watching people: it's very interesting to see how entire families go the stadium, bringing even very small kids with them, and observe the whole super-organised Ecuadorian selling "mechanism" that is triggered by each match.

Ieri sera sono andata allo stadio per assistere a una partita del Deportivo Quito, una delle squadre storiche di Quito. Non è la squadra con la maggior parte di tifosi (ce n'erano solo 10,000 allo stadio ieri), ma ha vinto la serie A cinque volte, incluso l'anno scorso. Questa partita era una delle prime per la Copa Libertadores, la Champions League dell'America Latina, e il Deportivo Quito giocava contro Velez, una delle squadre migliori dell'Argentina.

Per me, andare allo stadio qui non è solo una questione di calcio, ma anche una scusa per osservare la gente: è molto interessante vedere come intere famiglie vanno allo stadio, portandoci anche bambini molto piccoli, e osservare l'organizzatissimo meccanismo di vendita ecuadoriana che trasforma ogni partita in un mercato rionale!
